I have read very little about the current proposal and the objections, but I do understand this debate as someone that over the past year, was intimately involved with US health care industry: the most backwards, broken, counter-intuitive bureaucratic back-stabbing operation you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy.
When you see someone fall, most people have a natural instinct to pick them up. No matter how big a jerk you are, there is a powerful part of our human nature to care for our fellow man. Unfortunately the current health care model (which has nothing to do with “health” or “care”) is not based on our powerful instinct to care but on Greed.
See world renown specialist for diagnosis, Doctor recommends treatment to insurance company, generic insurance Doctor denies treatment. Appeal. Denied. 2nd Appeal. Denied. Case Closed.
Hopefully the “communist objection” to government run health care is the last death rattle of McCarthyism. But I hope the baby-boomers realize they are entering their Golden Years with a health care system that makes more money the quicker they die.
